China blasts Bush for meeting with Rebiya Kadeer

Of course, China was unhappy with George Bush for supporting Rebiya Kadeer.

Of course, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said, "As everyone knows, Rebiya is a convicted criminal."

Of course, she also said, "The relevant activities and actions of the U.S. side constitute a blatant interference in China's internal affairs and we express our strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to that."

Then she said, "The people of China enjoy various kinds of human rights and freedoms in accordance with the law."

Of course, she's right and what she doesn't say is that the people of China enjoy more kinds of human rights and freedoms in the last thirty years than in anyone's memory.   She would agree with this, I'm sure.

Of course, she would not agree that only for the Han Chinese, the ethnic group than comprises 97% of Chinese citizenry enjoys more rights and freedoms and prosperity.   Tibetans, Uyghurs and Mongolians have lost human rights and freedoms.   They are in the process of losing their cultures, as well.  They complain of being forced to be citizens in a country that has colonized their lands.  China took over their internal affairs.

I don't begrudge the improved lives of the Han; I want the same for the minorities of China.
