Uighurs at Guantanamo

In the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld slap dash approach to making America secure, a shocking number of people were arrested by Pakistani forces, turned over to U.S. troops for a financial reward and sent to Guantanamo where they were held with no evidence and no legal representation.  These people and their families have lost years in their lives.  The American people lost our moral compass.

This article from the New York Times reports on the June 23, 2008 ruling by the federal appeals court that one of these men be released or given a new military hearing.  I hope this is the beginning of America's return to justice and respect for human rights.

I liked the article. I had read it in NYTimes. I wonder if you would attract more people if you emphasized, maybe put up front, the information about the Uighers. Using your own words because you do know so much about this. Then link to the NYTimes article. Wouldn't take long.

I'd emphasize not just the Bush/Cheney slapdash methods, but their political uses of terror and their cruelty.
Think of all the people whose lives have been ruined by their means of "stopping terrorism." These innocents just happened to be in the wrong place.

You did in fact make the observation that so many innocent lives were ruined. I guess I'd still put Uigher in the first paragraph.

      Ginny,
Thanks for your comment.  You're right, there's so much more to say on the subject.  I must write about the positive relationship the Uyghur American Association and George W. Bush.  It's not what we would expect, they are big fans of George and when you learn their reasons why, it makes sense.
