This is a fascinating BBC story from October 2007 when George W. Bush awarded the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal.  This infuriated China. 

George, despite starting a heartbreaking war in Iraq based on lies, has been a champion of the Tibetan and Uyghur people of China.

This week of March 2008, Tibetans have been rioting against the Han Chinese in Lhasa and the Chinese police have cracked down hard.  Without the help of America and the rest of the world, China will wipe out Tibetan culture and the people of Tibet.  George W. Bush sometimes gets it very right.
