Hong Kong was easy

Hong Kong had just opened a new airport and the first month of operation had been chaotic.  I was arriving in the second month of operation.  I fretted on the plane all the way from Los Angeles to Hong Kong.  How would I manage if my luggage went to Malaysia?  How would I manage if it didn't and I had to drag it behind me from Lantau island to my hotel in Kowloon?  Where was Kowloon?  Hong Kong was a city of sublime efficiency.

From the minute I landed, every time I was confused and didn't know where to go next, a Chinese or Indian person appeared and directed me.  This happened all the way from the airport on Lantau island where I was directed to the train, to Hong Kong Central where I was directed to the subway, to Kowloon district where I was directed to the bus for my hotel.  It was some kind of Hong Kong magic.  I liked it very much.

Unfortunately, the hotel didn't have a record of my reservation, but they gave me a room anyway.

Wonderful, concise description of a sublimely efficient city! That must have felt VERY reassurance inspite of the hotel reservation mix up.

    Reva,
Loved your description of Hong Kong, never being there myself.
Love: "sublime efficiency"! Describes your experience in just two words. It gives me a very good idea of how slick everything went despite your worry.
